CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA: UNUSUAL THINGS TO DO.

Have you purchased cheap plane tickets, packed your essentials, and are you prepared to fly to Rainbow Nation's magnificent feisty urban culture, the birthplace of one of the world's oldest civilizations, and spend your winter vacations there? If this is the case, the time has come to learn more about your ideal tropical paradise and the unusual things to do in Cape Town, South Africa.

After getting long tiresome flights from London to Cape Town, you can't help but look for quirky things to do in Cape Town: it's part of the city's identity. It's time to roll up your sleeves and relish South Africa. Let's take
a look at one of the Rainbow Nation's most well-known cities.

Simply put, there are many crazy things to do in Cape Town, and a visit will help you understand why South Africa is known as the Rainbow Nation. Mandela's life story, which is possibly one of the most inspiring of all time, is inextricably linked to the city. Its environment is spectacular, and its culture is complex. Here's our shortlist, which, as you can see, is quite lengthy. We've snuck in a few more typical activities as well because even they seem strange when compared to other cities around the world.

CAPE TOWN'S OUT OF THE WAY THINGS TO DO

  • Ride Horses Along the Edge of South Africa: Simply put, the Sleepy Hollow Riding School brought me on the most breath-taking ride we've ever experienced. And we've been fortunate enough to see a lot of mesmerizing routes. The horses wade through water, past flamingos, and trot (or canter) along the sand and sea breeze spray as green and charcoal mountains emerge from the mist.

  • Mount the Table Mountain: Not only does the mountain have a stunning shape, but the beauty of its surroundings is also outstanding. The Cape Floral Region, a UNESCO-protected site famed for its biodiversity, includes Table Mountain. It covers less than 0.5% of Africa's geographical area yet is home to more than 20% of the continent's flora.

  • Revisit & Rethink the History of Slavery Along with Captivating Flower Safari: The Slave Lodge in Cape Town depicts the history of slavery from within the walls where people were once imprisoned and sold. The present make-up of Cape Town reflects the massive population shifts that occurred during these dark times, and the museum broadens its scope to explore slavery practices around the world, with a concentration on South Africa, of course. Yes, flowers are popular on the Cape, but they are far from delicate. Head to Groote Post for a rocky floral safari in a jeep surrounded by springbok. (There's also a vineyard here if you want to show your admiration for Cape grapes by wine sampling.)

  • Unusual Jazz Safari Along with Art Tour: Check out Coffee Beans Routes, a quirky small tour company in Cape Town that specializes in getting away from the city's gentrified side and getting beneath its skin. They provide a variety of tours, but all include in-depth education, small groups, and proper, meaningful encounters with locals. The jazz safari includes a visit to a musician's home in one of the townships, dinner, and an evening at a late-night jazz club.

This afternoon's Coffee Beans special takes you to art galleries and studios in trendy neighborhoods, revitalized communities, and parts of town with corrugated iron roofs. At each location, you'll meet artists and learn something new about the city.

  • Steering Through Masi: Tours across communities provide us with mixed emotions. Some may appear voyeuristic, but others assist in bridging gaps, supporting local businesses, and educating tourists. We'd recommend AWOL's Masiphumelele cycling trip after trying a few others. The cycling is very low-key, and you get to see a children's daycare center

, a witch doctor's waiting room, a women's sewing cooperative, and a tasty Masi lunch.

  • Cape Point Hike: One of the foremost breath-taking sights on the planet is the way the rocks cut into the water, isolating the Indian and Atlantic Seas (although, actually, the seas are partitioned someplace else, standing on the windswept edges and observing the tumultuous waves underneath is awe-inspiring). Even though the funicular can take you to the top, the joy of the trip is walking through the forest and taking within the marvelous vistas.

  • The Footsteps of MADIBA: Nelson Mandela's incredible life narrative is one of history's most inspiring, with many pivotal events taking place in Cape Town. Track them down on your own (by visiting Robben Island and walking past the balcony where Mandela delivered his first address after 27 years in prison) or hire Footsteps to Freedom to do it for you on their Footsteps of Madiba trip. (NB - For more information on Mandela, visit Liliesleaf farm on the outskirts of Johannesburg, where he hid for many months, and, of course, the Johannesburg slum of Soweto, which was the hub of many anti-apartheid struggles.)

  • Tasting the Flavours of Africa: Let us state that this location is just for visitors, according to the locals. Second, let us mention that the cuisine is delectable, the entertainment is upbeat, and you're missing out on all of life's pleasures unless you've got your face painted with gorgeous tribal dots! Nigerian cassava bread, Mozambican peri, and Kenyan hot butternut squash will transport you across the continent. The best part is the interactive Djembe drumming session at the start of the evening. It's a challenge to master, but it's also surprisingly addictive. All of this can be found at the Gold Restaurant in Green Point. Relax and enjoy yourself.
